The Spurs revealed that Gregg Popovich suffered a 'mild stroke,' and is expected to make a full recovery
San Antonio Spurs Head coach Gregg Popovich has missed six straight games after suffering an undisclosed medical episode hours before a game against Minnesota earlier this month, but the team revealed on Wednesday that the longtime coach had suffered a stroke.
Popovich, the oldest coach in league history at age 75, suffered a “mild stroke” before the Spurs' game on Nov. the Timberwolves at Frost Bank Center.

The team gave an update on the coach's condition, adding that although he is expected to make a full recovery, there is no set date for his return.
“Popovich, who has begun a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery. At this time, the timing of his return to the sideline has not been determined,” the statement read. “At this time, the organization thanks the extended community for providing privacy and space for the Popovich family.”

Assistant coach Mitch Johnson took over in Popovich's absence. The Spurs went 3-3 under Johnson.
Last week, Johnson addressed Popovich's health episode and gave a positive update without revealing that he had suffered a stroke.
“I can say that … you're doing well,” he said at the time. “We've been talking. I've had my hands full with this, trying to stay above water. So, I haven't talked about the details and I'm not sure, about anything.”

Popovich of course the NBA career leader with 1,390 victories and 170 more last season while winning five NBA titles. He is in his 29th season, all with San Antonio.
