The suspected gunman who fired more than 200 rounds in the Florida compound was killed by a sniper's bullet, a police officer said.
A Connecticut man was shot and killed by a Florida sheriff's gunman after he allegedly fired more than 200 rounds at neighboring homes and officers over several hours Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Joseph DiFusco, was killed by a gunman at the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, but no one else was injured, the sheriff's office said.
DiFusco, 56, was a snowbird who may have brought guns to the area because he was staying at an Airbnb, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Deputies responded to the Kingston Shores condo near Ormond-by-the-Sea around 4 a.m. after DiFusco reported having suicidal thoughts but refused to seek medical attention, FOX Orlando reported. Deputies were called to the area two hours later when DiFusco began shooting at neighboring units and when law enforcement responded.
“He probably shot over 200 rounds,” Chitwood said. “[You could] we heard bullets ringing over our heads, and we were 100 yards back.”
Chitwood said his deputies visited the previous three locations, the news station reported.

“He wouldn't negotiate,” he told the news station. “Every time we tried to negotiate, he would shoot at us. [He] hung up his phone. He was armed to the teeth.”
Neighbors were evacuated from the area. Chitwood said the DiFusco family contacted authorities before the incident, saying they feared for their safety.
“They were very afraid of him, they were sleeping in the car,” he said.
He noted that DiFusco has reportedly stopped taking his medication and hasn't slept in days.
