Those on the left would like the name – all of them, in fact

Merriam-Webster's word of the year for 2024 is “polarization,” which means “split into two very different things.” (The word sounds like “brain rot,” but one wonders if it has caught on among lexicographers.)
In fact, it's been the word of the year since at least 2016, when President-elect Trump won the first and the left went nuts.
The remaining workers in the dictionary world couldn't resist being called Trumped and started playing word games almost immediately after his victory. Even NPR noted in 2017 that, “Merriam-Webster's Dictionary Has Been Trolling Trump on Twitter for Months.”
Corporate wordplay is part of a larger leftist strategy to create new words or redefine existing terms to fit a liberal narrative. We've seen examples repeated over the past few years — “birther,” “Latinx” and, more recently, “womyn.”

The Scripps National Spelling Bee, D-Embarrassment, released the third grade spelling bee for its 100th anniversary competition. And “womyn” is included as another acceptable spelling of the real word, women. Naturally, according to a Scripps spokesperson, “All words used in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program are taken from our official dictionary, the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary.”
Think I'm scared. (Adjective: suffered from a sudden mental or emotional breakdown.) But that's really propaganda. Even the Lefty Urban Dictionary defines the word “womyn” as, “a term used by feminists who feel that having the word 'man' in the word 'woman' makes women a subgroup of men.” (Scripps also endorsed “bazaar” as an alternative to bazaar, which is just weird.)
More controversial than that spin is the attempt to eliminate mothers from our language, to appease sexists. In July 2022, the NEA, a conservative union of anti-American teachers, considered changing the language. They wanted to drop the word “mother” and replace it with “birth parent.” “Father” should have changed to “unborn parent.” That's because real parents – both moms and dads – don't like what the NEA wants to do to their kids.

That plan failed. Even the NEA must have realized how crazy it was.
One month later, the AP Stylebook decided that “expressions like 'pregnant people' or 'people who want abortions' are acceptable if you want to include people who have those experiences but don't look like women.”
That and all other forms of kookiness have been accepted by so-called science. Everything from “breastfeeding” instead of breastfeeding to encouraging staff to “avoid sexist language” is available on the NIH website. Employees should “use everyone or all instead of men and women and guests or dignitaries instead of wives and ladies.” The NIH tries to put these words into someone else's mouth and provides instructions on its site with a prominent link to the AP Stylebook.
The liberal media either defended this nonsense or stood for it. And you still do. CNN wrote, “The case for 'pregnant people' and other sexist phrases.” A gender-inclusive phrase means “penis owners.” (You'll have to write your own jokes about this one. I wrote a few and deleted them because I wanted to be hired.) The network aired that article in May 2024.
THREE BIG WAYS NEWS NEWS LOSES PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS. AND YOU SHOULD
You might think that the left would tire of empty words, but not so. Look up the funny word Latinx. They are old liberals because they hate that Spanish has both male and female gender names, so they want a gender neutral name for people from Spain or Latin America. But despite the multi-year effort, Pew Research reported in September that “4% of Latino adults said they used Latin to describe themselves, little changed from 3% who said the same in 2019.”
Instead of giving up, lefties just try a new fake name. In April, Axios wrote, “Latine is the new Latinx.” That's like saying Vice President Kamala Harris is the new Michael Dukakis. It is not particularly recommended on either side of the comparison.
The article stated, “'Latine,' a gender-neutral way to describe or refer to people of Latino descent, is gaining ground on university campuses, museums, and among researchers and the media.”

None of those groups actually speak Spanish or Latino. Each of them is just another elite, ivory tower. So, who do they cite as experts? Monica Trasandes, “director of Spanish-language media and representation at GLAAD” – Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Talk about not being able to read a room, an election or even a dictionary.
And, ironically, the article itself ran on Axios Latino. Not Axios Latine or Latinx.

The left's push to use bad words makes me think of how the wonderful word wonk Susie Dent would describe it. She calls herself, “That Woman in the Corner of the Dictionary” and often posts obscure words from centuries past. One of his quotes of the day from August was, “'Podsnappian' (from Charles Dickens): he winked, he congratulated himself, and he was convinced that everybody should see things the way he did.”
That sounds like the last word to me. It pretty much explains the grammar goons on the left.
