Donald Trump on Saturday named Stanley Woodward, the lawyer who defended the incoming president's top aides and people charged in the January 6, 2021 attacks, to join his White House legal team.
Trump's transition team said in a statement that Woodward will serve as assistant to the president and senior adviser, and will work closely with Trump's White House chief of staff, formerly Susie Wiles.
Trump last month tapped David Warrington as his top lawyer to lead the White House legal team, overturning his previous study of William McGinley, who moved to work with an outside group led by billionaire Elon Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
Trump is scheduled to take office on January 20.
Woodward, who is based in Washington, has represented many people in Trump's circle over the years, including adviser Dan Scavino, trade adviser Peter Navarro and aide Walt Nauta.
He also represented other defendants charged in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, including Oath Keeper Kelly Meggs.
