US Open Double Champion Max Purcell Accepts Suspension

The 2024 season holds both Grand Slam glory and great shame Max Purcell.
Reigning two-time US Open champion Purcell has opted to enter a voluntary suspension under the Tennis Anti-Doping Program, the ITIA announced today.

The 26-year-old Aussie, currently ranked No. 12 in doubles, admitted to violating Article 2.2 of the TADP related to the use of the Prohibited Method, and asked to enter the suspension on December 10, 2024.
The suspension began on December 12, 2024, and time served under the temporary suspension will be included in any future penalty, ITIA said in a statement.
During the suspension, Purcell is not allowed to play, train, or attend any tennis event sanctioned or sanctioned by ITIA members (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any other. national organization.
The ITIA did not specify what substance Purcell admitted to using.
In an Instagram post, Purcell said he exceeded the “allowable limit” with the IV infusion of vitamins.
Purcell and partner Jordan Thompson won the US Open twice just months after reaching the Wimbledon final twice.
