US says Guantanamo detainee returned to Tunisia

Guantanamo Bay detainee Ridah Bin Saleh al-Yazidi has been returned to Tunisia, the US Department of Defense said.

He was found eligible to be removed from custody after a “rigorous interagency review process,” the press release said.

The Pentagon did not say whether Mr Yazidi accepted the charge.

Since 2002, the detention center at Guantanamo Bay has been used to hold what the US describes as soldiers illegally captured during America's “war on terror”.

The camp is part of a US military base in southeastern Cuba.

The Pentagon statement he said there are 26 prisoners remaining in Guantanamo Bay, 14 of which are eligible for transfer.
