“Hello everyone, I wanted to share a quick update about my withdrawal from the Australian Open. Unfortunately, my back injury, which bothered me at the end of last season, has not fully healed,” Krejcikova wrote on social media. “It's really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and I have good memories of reaching the quarterfinals last year.

“Thank you all for your support. I'm working hard to get back on track, and I can't wait to see you in court soon!”

World No. 10 Krejcikova, who was due to finish 10th at the Australian Open, has not played a match since bowing out. Zheng Qinwen in the semi finals of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia last November. Krejcikova served the world no.3 Coco Gauff her lone loss en route to her first WTA Finals appearance.

Katerina Siniakova and Krejcikova teamed up to capture back-to-back Australian Open doubles titles in 2022 and 2023.

Last July, Krejcikova converted her third match point to defeat Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to claim her first Wimbledon tournament.

It was the second Grand Slam singles title in three years in 2021 for Roland Garros champion and two-time champion Krejcikova and left her feeling “unbelievable.”

Krejcikova joins former no.1 Caroline Wozniacki and a former US Open finalist Karolina Pliskova on departure from Melbourne.

The 2025 Australian Open main draw is set for January 12-26.
