Zooey Deschanel Loses Childhood Home in LA Wildfires
Zooey Deschanel shared a heartfelt tribute to his childhood home as he revealed it was destroyed in the Los Angeles fire.
I The New Girl The star, 45, shared his loss while posting a series of photos on Instagram on Friday, January 17.
Among the photos was a photo of her childhood home in Pacific Palisades still standing, while another photo taken from the same perspective shows it reduced to ash and debris following the January wildfires that devastated the area.
Other photos showed Zooey's family, including her sister and brother Bones star Emily Deschanel48, inside and outside the house over the years making memories.
“My childhood home. A marvel of 1920s Spanish Revival architecture. Filled with too many great memories to count, it was one of the oldest homes in the Palisades and it's just breathtakingly beautiful,” Zoeey captioned the post. It wasn't a mansion but it was cozy and lovely and unique and perfect for me.”
The actress reflected on how important her home is to her in the touching caption.
“One of my friends growing up called it “The Church” because the 14-foot ceiling with stained glass windows in the living room cast colorful shadows at the end of the day. And for me it was sacred, a sacred place where we felt very safe. Christmas dinners, Easter egg hunts, trick or treating, weddings, birthdays, baby showers… we celebrated the best moments of our lives there,” Zooey wrote. “The family photos that lined the hallways, the painting, the piano I learned to play on, the wedding china, the furniture my great-grandfather made… mementos of past generations: Everything vanished into thin air.”
He continued: “I know we are not alone. Along with LA's other beautiful neighborhood, Alta Dena, the streets of my childhood in Pacific Palisades were wiped out as we knew them. A lot of people have lost a lot.”
Zoeey continued to pay tribute to those who made a living for him, his family and the community. He also gave a special shout out to the firefighters who were working tirelessly on the front line, describing them as “true heroes.”
“To all the people who reached out to us and our community and Los Angeles in general: Thank you. To the firefighters who worked around the clock to keep everyone safe: You are our true heroes,” Zoeey added. “To friends who are very happy to think of us at this time: send messages and call, you will visit us, bring us food, send clothes to my parents who left empty-handed, we disturbed you. jokes and has cried with us when we needed it. Your kindness is what made this bearable. To the strangers who lifted us up with their kind hands: you are the true meaning of society.”
He concluded, “Thank you all for showing us the beauty in your hearts.” You don't know what it means to us.”
More than 12,000 buildings are estimated to have been destroyed by the wildfires that are ravaging parts of Los Angeles including the Pacific Palisades area, Malibu, Santa Monica and the Hollywood Hills. Celebrities like Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Paris Hilton again Miles Teller they are among those whose homes were engulfed in flames.
